ZAKOUR HISTORY BY THE OWNER WISSAM HOURY
Zakour Est. for Equestrian and Leather Works was established in 1922 before the era of Greater Lebanon. My father started it in 1965 with my grandfather, in the same shop located at the entrance to Beirut at the Tayouneh roundabout, after the Lebanese civil war.
After difficult suffering to start over and the death of my grandfather, teacher Zakour (the founder) my father and I didn't give up hope to restore the glory of this institution, and we started from scratch and hand in hand. I was fourteen years old when I started working with my father (the second generation), as the civil war broke the ambition of a fourteen-year-old.
We are building again what is left of the craft.... Today, after years of suffering, the name of the Zakour Craft Leather Est has risen back, and history is repeating itself.
Now my father is teaching my son (the fourth generation) and we are still sustaining our craft since 1922 for a 101 years.
